Where’s the Love commemorates the death of former UCLA VSU President Thien Minh Ly, who was a victim of a tragic hate crime. Originally created to remember the death of Thien Minh Ly, this event has broadened to include many of the more well-known hate crime incidents against Asian Americans. The Vietnamese Student Union aims to shed light on the stories of racial tensions that the Asian American community faces and are often ignored by the media. In a generation where racial crimes are prevalent, we wish to spread awareness that these hate crimes do occur against Asian Americans as well, whether or not we are aware of them, and to dispel the myth that Asian Americans do not have any problems.
Traditionally, the commemoration event features a combination of the following:
- Free dinner
- Keynote speaker
- Gallery walk
- Candle lighting ceremony
