Fall 2013, Week 7

** VSU – Weekly Member Newsletter – Fall, Week 7————————————————————

** IMPORTANT: Typhoon Haiyan Relief Effort

** A natural disaster that VSU is focusing donation efforts towards. Please read the following infographic to learn about Typhoon Haiyan.
————————————————————

Typhoon Haiyan Person Finder (http://google.org/personfinder/2013-yolanda)
As you may or may not be aware, one of the most powerful typhoons in recorded history has devastated the coast of the Philippines and is currently making its way towards Vietnam. Quote from USA Today: “If the typhoon death toll is confirmed, it would be the deadliest natural catastrophe on record in the Philippines, topping both the 5,100 killed by Tropical Storm Thelma in November 1991 and the 5,791 killed after a magnitude-7.9 earthquake triggered a tsunami in the Moro Gulf in the southern Philippines in 1976.” VSU has made it a priority to take a proactive step in this effort, so please visit us on Bruinwalk this week. Donate to the cause or simply swing by to show your support. Our thoughts and wishes go out to the families of those who have already been affected.

** VSUxACA Joint General Meeting!
————————————————————

** This week we team up with ACA to put on a GM that’s TWICE as fun!
————————————————————

Happy Week 7, everyone! We hope that everything has been great on your end. Because things are going very well on ours. In fact, we’ve been talking to some of our frieds over at the Association of Chinese Americans and we’re very excited to announce that our two organizations are going to plan a joint general meeting this week! Bring your VSU friends and meet some new ACA ones. It’s gonna a very unique, very cool opportunity to mix and mingle between organizations. We’ll learn a little bit about them. They’ll learn a little bit about us. What’s there not to love?

It’s gonna be the same time, same place that we usually have our general meetings. Meaning this Wednesday from 6:00PM – 8:00PM in Kerckhoff Staterooms (131). We are very excited about planning this event alongside ACA and we’re hoping that you all come out to rep VSU! Let’s show them how to have a good time, VSU-style! We’re almost certain that ACA is gonna do the same for us!

** Lucky you! The application deadline has been extended!
————————————————————
Jonathan Katz
Because quite a few people have asked for an extension, HOPE will be extending its internship application deadline to Thursday November 14, 2013 at 4:59 PM! This is it, so be sure to turn in your applications in on time! (No late submissions will be accepted after this date and time)

If you’re interested in working with youth, building your leadership skills, and building those lifetime bonds with others, HOPE Internship is perfect for you! The focus of this internship is higher education and access to higher education. This internship program will enable interns to critically think about issues in higher education, as well as topics on identity and history/herstory. Interns will engage in deep dialogue around these issues, prompting them to think about their personal experiences in relation to the topics discussed. Through HOPE Internship, interns will be prepared to take on more leadership roles within and outside the HOPE space.
