** Good luck on midterms!

** Study hard for now, we’ll take it easy this week.
That right there is Mr. Johnny Tran, VSU’s Internal Vice President, catching up on some much needed sleep. This week VSU’s schedule is fairly light since midterms are rolling in. We’re all students here at UCLA, so it’s good to budget some time for us all to do well in our classes. Study hard and try your best not to get too sleep-deprived! We’ll try our best to do the same! In the mean-time, keep note of the following announcements.

Note: VSU will have its next general meeting Wednesday of 5th Week, October 30th from 6:00PM – 8:00PM in Kerckhoff 131. The meeting will be our annual Halloween general meeting and is sure to be a frighteningly good time. More details about our Halloween GM will be in next week’s newsletter!

VSU’s Halloween GM already has a facebook event! (https://www.facebook.com/events/564305476989969/)

** Just a little bit of HOPE to brighten up your day.
HOPE Internship applications are out!!

If you’re interested in working with youth, building your leadership skills, and building those lifetime bonds with others, HOPE Internship is perfect for you! The focus of this internship is higher education and access to higher education. This internship program will enable interns to critically think about issues in higher education, as well as topics on identity and history/herstory. Interns will engage in deep dialogue around these issues, prompting them to think about their personal experiences in relation to the topics discussed. Through HOPE Internship, interns will be prepared to take on more leadership roles within and outside the HOPE space.

** CPO Welcome: MONDAY OCT 21ST!
For those of you unfamiliar with CPO, CPO is an office that truly gives a voice to unrepresented communities such as our very own Vietnamese-American community. VSU is a welcomed member of the CPO family and we love all of the change and ideas that CPO advocates for. So come out to this welcome event with us to meet some new faces and start the year off on a good note!

The Community Programs Office (CPO) will celebrate the beginning of another great year by hosting its fifth annual Welcome and Reception for students and staff. We invite you to participate in what will be a great night.

Every year the CPO Welcome attracts hundreds of students who are interested in getting involved in the CPO’s multicultural space. This year’s event will occur on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm in the Pauley Pavilion Clubhouse and Pauley’s North Concourse (which faces Lot 7). Our program will start promptly at 6:45pm.

The CPO will be offering a multicultural dinner featuring vegetarian, vegan, halal, and kosher options.

The CPO Welcome is an opportunity for you to meet freshmen and transfer students as well as student leaders who might want to co-program or participate in events and services offered by your department.

The theme of this year’s welcome and reception is “This is Our Moment!” which comes directly from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ song Can’t Hold Us. The theme was chosen by the CPO’s student leadership to reflect their belief that their 25 year record of working to improve UCLA’s diversity, campus climate, and graduation rates for historically underrepresented students has been successful. Moreover, our students believe that this is their moment to prepare for their next 25 years.

Thank you for considering our invitation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at . We look forward to seeing you there!

Please take care.
