Typhoon Haiyan Relief Effort

In the early morning of Friday, November 8, Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) swept through the Philippines and it has since hit Vietnam. This Category 5 super typhoon is one of the largest in world history. Currently, the casualty count from Typhoon Haiyan is 10,000 people and counting.

We ask that you join the Vietnamese Student Union as we fundraise for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan in Vietnam and the Philippines.

Find us on Bruin Walk this week, November 12-15, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm every day and show your support through the following:

1. Purchase:
– A mini nón lá for $3, or
– A mini nón lá + “I ♥ Vietnam” jar for $5 (pictures in the comments below).

If you purchase a jar, we encourage you to use the jar to collect change and donate to the relief fund.

We will also be taking photos of supporters to post here.

2. Make a donation via Venmo to VSU Bruins, with the note “Typhoon Haiyan.”

For more information on how to use Venmo: https://venmo.com/info/product

When making a donation, please use the following format:
– Recipient: VSU Bruins
– The price (this will be integrated into the form)
– In the notes section, please mention the following:
“Name”, “Amount donated”, “Typhoon Haiyan” ”

** 100% of proceeds collected from our fundraiser AND donations will go towards Global Giving (www.globalgiving.org/projects/super-typhoon-haiyan-relief-fund/). For full transparency, we will post total donations collected on this event page at the end of every day. We will also post our full donation to Global Giving once it is made.

3. Participate in our call-in to the Department of State on Thursday, Nov. 14.

The Department of State has mobilized efforts to the Philippines as it has faced the most destruction from Typhoon Haiyan. We will be calling to urge the Department of State to provide relief to Vietnam as well, as Vietnam was struck by Typhoon Haiyan on November 10.

* Please check back for more information about our call-in on Thursday.
