What is VSU Internship?

The VSU Internship is a year-long holistic program dedicated to developing well-rounded leaders that are committed to making a positive impact in the world around them, focusing on the Vietnamese and Vietnamese-American identity. In addition, interns will engage in critical reflection and discovery of what it means to be Asian-American in society. Interns will practice valuable leadership skills, including public speech, interview skills, group facilitation, event planning, and time management. Additionally, interns will become involved with VSU’s various programming throughout the year, such as our Vietnamese Culture Night, High School Conference, Black April, and Southeast Asian Admit Weekend.

The Internship program will give interns the opportunity to learn outreach and retention issues through VSU’s projects, HOPE (Higher Opportunity Program for Education) & SEA CLEAR (Southeast Asian Campus Learning Education and Retention). Interns will collaborate with different spaces on and off campus, such as UCLA student organizations. Furthermore, interns are encouraged to empower themselves and the community around them in order to best respond to situations of injustices and inequity we face.

We hope for interns to be proud of their cultural heritage and family history. Through the course of this program, the interns will experience tremendous personal growth alongside a group of peers who will become like a second family in their college experience. Together, they will become involved with a student organization unlike any other. The goal is to discover yourself, your responsibility to your community, new ideas, friends, and most importantly, family.
