** HOPE and SEA CLEAR Info Night begins tonight (10.3.2013).
————————————————————
[Meet up in front of the Student Activities Center @ 6:00PM]

VSU prides itself in the services that it provides for the Vietnamese-American community both on and off campus. A large portion of the good that we do comes from VSU’s project HOPE and project SEA CLEAR. VSU’s projects provide services that both help out in advocating for the Vietnamese-American community as well as serve as wonderful support systems for students here at UCLA! Don’t miss TONIGHT’S wonderful opportunity to get involved with HOPE and SEA CLEAR and contribute to the well-being of the Vietnamese-American community. You’ll be glad you did!

** HOPE:
Higher Opportunity Program for Education
————————————————————
————————————————————

The Higher Opportunity Program for Education (HOPE) is a student-initiated project founded by the Vietnamese Student Union (VSU) in 1999. HOPE is committed to outreaching to under-resourced and underrepresented youth. HOPE exists to raise consciousness of and provide access to higher education through holistic empowerment. We promote self-sufficiency and leadership through academic, personal, and community empowerment. We develop our students through pee-mentoring, tutoring, workshops, field trips, and high school conferences. Under the support of the Student-Initiated Access Committee (SIAC) and the direction of VSU, HOPE strives to achieve its goals toward educational equity for all.

** SEA CLEAR:
Southeast Asian Campus Learning Education and Retention
————————————————————
————————————————————

SEA CLEAR challenges UCLA students to find relevancy in their education in order to help them develop and become empowered leaders. It is SEA CLEAR’s vision that these students later apply their newfound knowledge to the outside world to proactively contribute to their Southeast Asian community.

The project stresses not only academic success, but emphasizes the importance of holistic development and student empowerment in the process toward self-retention. SEA CLEAR strongly believes that retention extends beyond individual success because graduation is a community-wide victory. SEA CLEAR fulfills it’s mission to increase graduation and retention rates by developing students holistically through five components: counseling, mentorship, an internship program, wellness component, and transfer component.
