Black April Commemoration 2014: Where Are We Now?

Join us tonight for the second of two nights as we commemorate the Fall of Saigon.

This event provides an opportunity for Vietnamese American students at UCLA and other members of the community to come together and examine the events that transpired 40 years ago and analyze the current condition of their community. Some of the topics that will be examined during this event are the Vietnamese refugee experience, the fallout that resulted because of the war, and the birth of the Vietnamese-American identity. The Black April Commemoration also includes a guest panel, performances, discussion opportunities, a candlelight vigil, and more.

2014 Election Results: Round 1, Part 1 (President; Admin. Coordinator)

Dear Members of the Vietnamese Student Union,

Thank you all for participating in the 2014 Vietnamese Student Union Elections (Round 1, Part 1). The votes were counted on April 23, 2014 at 7:30 pm by the President, Anh Q. Nguyen, and VSU Election Committee member, Hoang Vuong. To assure validity, the counting of the votes was monitored by a UCLA full-time employee and the SIOC Internship Director, Kendra Sitney. The results are as follows:

Confidence: 14, No Confidence: 4 = 73.7% – ELECTED

Confidence: 3, No Confidence: 16 = 15.8% – NOT ELECTED


Congratulations to those elected! Candidates have one week to formally accept. Elected candidates will receive a follow-up notice from the current President. If any position is not accepted, positions will be reopened for election.

Reminder: Application for Round 2, non-executive board positions, will be due Friday, May 9, 2014 (Week 6) by 5pm. We will continue with elections hearing Wednesday Week 7. More information will be available at a later time. Expected start time of election will be 6:00 PM. A general reminder, the next election will begin promptly and coming in late may result in being unable to vote for a position.

Run for a Board Position: Elections this Spring

The Vietnamese Student Union at UCLA is releasing applications for VSU Board and will begin the election process this Spring Quarter 2014. Please carefully review the application, important dates, and bylaws before submitting your application.

All applications are due to either the VSU office at Kerckhoff Hall 413 or by email to Anh Q. Nguyen, VSU President, at misounguyen3@gmail.com. All candidates must be enrolled at UCLA as a full-time student during the period of their term and cannot hold more than one position as elected or hired staff. It is mandatory that candidates meet up with the individuals currently holding or involved with the positions they are up for and to be present during the elections hearing otherwise their application will be rejected.

* Candidates interested in running for President must have held a VSU staff position prior to running for at least one year unless an exception is made by a two-thirds majority vote by the Board. Candidates interested in running for either of the two Vice President positions must have been an intern or VSU staff member for at least one year unless an exception is made by a majority vote by the Board.
