Vietnamese Student Union Election Results Part 1

Dear Members of the Vietnamese Student Union,

Thank you all for participating in the 2011 Vietnamese Student Union Elections (Part 1).  The votes were counted last night on April, 20, 2011 at 8:30 pm by the following members of the board: Van Huynh, Nancy Nguyen, and Nicole Nguyen.  To assure validity, the counting of the votes was monitored by UCLA full-time employee and American Indian Recruitment (AIR) Project Director, Jose Miguel Pulido Leon and American Indian Student Association (AISA) alum Eric Sanchez.  The results are as follows:

President

Katrina Vo – Yes: 41, No: 18 = 69.5% Elected

Roman Nguyen – Yes: 17, No: 42 = 28.8% Not Elected

Internal Vice President

Dennis Nguyen – Yes: 27, No: 23 = 54% Elected

Trang Michelle Nguyen – Yes: 23, No: 27 = 46% Not Elected

Congratulations to those elected! Candidates have one week to formally accept. Elected candidates will receive a follow-up notice from the current President. If any position is not accepted, positions will be reopened for election.

We were not able to finish all the hearings for executive board candidates on April 20th. Thus, Election Hearings Part 1 will be continued Week 6, Wednesday, May 4th from 6-9 pm, location TBA.

VSU Black April Commemoration Week 2011

On behalf of the Vietnamese Student Union at UCLA, we invite you to attend Black April Commemoration Week 2011, which highlights the political, cultural, and historical impact of the Fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975.

The annual Black April Commemoration is a touching and empowering program that will serve as a tool to bridge the generational gap between many Vietnamese Americans and war-related immigrant families.

VSU Spring Week 4 Updates and Announcements

VSU Board Elections Part 1

When: Wednesday, April 20th, 6-8PM
Where: Ackerman 2408
What: This week, as many of you know, is the first round of VSU elections! Be a part of the democratic process, and help shape the future leadership of VSU.

Part 1 Elections will encompass the positions of:

President
Internal Vice President
External Vice President
Outreach Coordinator
Retention Coordinator
Fiscal Coordinator
Administrative Coordinator

*Come prepared and ask potential candidates about their vision of the future of VSU, or pose any other questions you have! You must be present at elections in order to make your vote count! Please come on time because we will start on time.*

VSU board elections are coming up starting week 4 and we are looking for new board members for the 2011-2012 academic year! If you are interested in running to be on VSU board next year, be sure to check download and check out the application:

Vietnamese Graduation Committee Applications
V-Grad, Vietnamese Graduation, is designed for graduating seniors who identify as Vietnamese, have been involved with VSU, and/or would like to be part of the ceremony to celebrate such a momentous occasion with their families, friends, and individuals who have contributed to their success.

Applications are due by 5 PM on Sunday, April 24th.

Committees:
Speakers / Volunteer – Outreach to the community to find guest speakers, oversee volunteers that will be needed on the day of the event
Logistics / Gifts – Help plan and gather materials, plan and create the gifts for graduating seniors (sashes and certificates)
Food / Entertainment – Work with a strict budget to get food for the event, outreach for cultural performers to entertain
Decorations – Work with a strict budget to decorate the location

The quarter is coming to an end soon, and I wanted to let you all know about the wonderful opportunities HOPE has in store for the upcoming year.  HOPE is looking for driven and motivated individuals dedicated to promoting access to higher education. Make a difference by working with HOPE student-staff toward servicing students in Los Angeles and Orange County.
