VSU Board Application 2011-2012

VSU Board Applications are out! If you are interested in being a board member next year, don’t hesitate to ask any current board members about their positions. You can also contact Van Huynh, VSU President at vanthuynh@gmail.com

All applications are due to either the VSU office at Kerckhoff Hall 413 or by email to vanthuynh@gmail.com. All candidates must be enrolled at UCLA as a full-time student during the period of their term and cannot hold more than one position as elected or hired staff.

It is mandatory that candidates meet up with the individuals currently holding or involved with the positions they are up for and to be present during the elections hearing otherwise their application will be rejected.

Important Dates:
Monday, April 18, 2011, (Week 4) by 5pm Applications due for Elections Part 1
Wednesday, April 20, 2011 (Week 4) & May 4, 2011 (Week 6) from 6-8 pm Election Hearing Part 1
Monday, May 9, 2011 (Week 7) by 5pm Applications due for Elections Part 2

Vietnamese Student Union at UCLA Hiring 2011 – 2012 HOPE & SEA CLEAR Project Directors

The Vietnamese Student Union at UCLA is hiring full-time HOPE and SEA CLEAR Project Directors for the 2011-2012 summer and academic year. Please review the descriptions below as well as the attached applications.

HOPE Project Director Hiring

We are looking for driven and motivated individuals dedicated to promoting access to higher education. Make a difference by working with HOPE student staff toward servicing disadvantaged students in Los Angeles and Orange County.

About HOPE: The Higher Opportunity Program for Education (HOPE), a student-initiated outreach project established and supported by the Vietnamese Student Union at UCLA, promotes access to achieve higher education for high school students, particularly those who are underserved and underrepresented.  The creation of HOPE marks a proactive effort by the VSU to empower the Vietnamese community, which has historically been overlooked by the educational system. HOPE targets at-risk students in Westminster High School in Orange County as well as San Gabriel High School in Los Angeles County. HOPE exists to raise consciousness of higher education, and promote academic, leadership, and holistic empowerment, as well as self-sufficiency through counseling, mentoring, tutoring, workshops, fieldtrips, and high school conferences.

Note: Position is for the 2011-2012 summer and academic year. Employment begins July 1st, 2011 Employment ends June, 30th, 2012

SEA CLEAR Project Director Hiring

We are looking for driven and motivated individuals dedicated to promoting retention on-campus. Make a difference by working with SEA CLEAR to service underrepresented students in higher education.

About SEA CLEAR: The retention project, Southeast Asian Campus Learning Education and Retention (SEA CLEAR), was founded in 1998 as a student-initiated, student-run effort established and supported by the Vietnamese Student Union at UCLA. SEA CLEAR, along with other student retention projects in the Student Retention Center, is committed to address the issue of student retention at UCLA through our holistic development philosophy. The project serves students from the Southeast Asian community, ranging from at-risk to dismissed students, from freshmen to transfers, to ensure that they are supported in their pursuits on-campus. We provide services such as peer counseling, mentorships, internships, study hall opportunities, writing success counseling, and other services to all students from diverse backgrounds. We promote self-sufficiency and leadership development through our resources, and we are truly excited for you to join our team. We are committed to 100 percent retention of all students at UCLA.
